It was pretty surreal driving into the office today listening to Ben and Shawn talk about The Linkblogging Cancer.

I found myself nodding in agreement the whole way.

If you’ve listened, Shawn made an argument about linking to something that’s interesting, but not necessarily insightful or changes your life. He asks how one might go about linking to that.

Shawn answered his own question, which is that he didn’t link to it because everyone else was and he didn’t have anything insightful to add. If you were the first one to find something great, maybe a link post with minimal commentary is enough. Kottke has made his blog for over a decade doing that, linking to things no one else has found.

I’m glad this has stimulated so much discussion – I’m truly humbled that it’s making so many writers that I respect think about their craft.
