The Next Web summarized some points from the new book, Inside Apple that looks at Apple’s product development process among other things.

Some interesting points to note:

  • Product development is driven by design, not finance, business, marketing, or any other functions.
  • A startup is formed within Apple. This is key to approaching something completely new and allowing it to cannibalize your existing products.
  • Once the process is put into place, there are clearly defined owners for each step. There is no ambiguity.
  • The executive team can review all the products because of how narrow their product lines are.
